Ecosystem Service Research Assistant, Center for Hyper-Arid Socio-Ecology (CHASE) – Arava Institute for Environmental Studies

The Ecosystem Service Research Assistant will work under the direct supervision of Anthropologist Dr. Avigail Morris.

Intern’s responsibilities include:

-Composing an ecosystem assessment chapter on the desert
-Organizing department meetings and meetings with authors
-Economics of desert ecosystem services
-Assisting Dr. Avigail Morris with work related to ecosystem services in the Arava
-Assisting with the coordination of the Center for Hyper-Arid Socio-Ecology Research platform, especially in issues requiring Hebrew

Qualifications:

-Background in social science
-Background in economics an advantage
-Strong organizational and time management skills
-Computer and MS Office proficient
-Pleasant and personable, hardworking, efficient, able to work under pressure and for long hours
-Willing to take on major responsibilities
-Fluency in English required, knowledge of Hebrew or Arabic an advantage

The Center for Hyper-Arid Socio-Ecology (CHASE), directed by Dr. Elli Groner, is dedicated to the study of the natural ecosystems in the Arava valley and the interaction between those ecosystems and the region’s people.CHASE brings together Jordanian and Israeli researchers to map the biodiversity of the region, in order to better protect natural resources while enabling sustainable human development in the region.
