Diplomatic Assistance Fellowship, Europe Division, Southern Europe Department – Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Southern Europe Department is responsible for coordinating Israel’s diplomatic relations with the countries of Southern Europe (Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, San Marino, Malta, Spain, Portugal and Andorra). The department acts as the bridge between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ directorate in Jerusalem and Israel’s embassies and designated missions in Southern Europe on political, economic, press, academic and cultural affairs related to Israel’s foreign policy.

The fellow will work across the department (and when needed across the Division as well) in assisting the diplomatic team:

  • The fellow will be tasked with working with incoming official delegations from Southern Europe, aiding to ensure the trips are a success.
  • The fellow will be required to produce research papers, generally concerning European current affairs, for members of the department when the need arises.
  • The fellow will work closely with Israel’s non-resident Ambassador to Malta in assisting him with diplomatic correspondence and planning, media analysis, communications and digital diplomacy.

 

Qualifications Required for the Internship:

  • High level of English and excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge about Israel, the region and European affairs
  • Computer skills, including social media
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and communication skills
  • Good research and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Southern European languages an asset, but not essential
