Congressional Affairs Fellowship, Congressional Affairs Department – North American Division – Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Provided by Israel Government Fellows

The Fellow will be responsible for:
-Researching of political developments in the United States
-Monitoring and analyzing the 2015 presidential elections
-Assisting with hosting United States congressional delegations to Israel
-Assisting in acquiring information regarding possible cooperation fields with legislators
-Monitoring the United States political media
-Monitoring the United States congressional committees (hearings, mark ups etc)
-Researching certain legislations
-Writing political reports and updates from the hill

Qualifications:
-Native English speaker
-Political science degree preferred
-Familiarity with the federal system, particularly the legislative branch
-Previous work experience related to the United States Congress extremely advantageous

The Congressional Affairs Department serves as a liaison unit between the Government of Israel and the United States Congress.

Research Fellowship, NGO Monitor - Provided by Israel Government Fellows  

alt="ngo monitor"The Research Fellow will be assigned to one of NGO Monitor’s research desks (Israel, Europe, BDS, Legal), to be determined based on the interests and strengths of the fellow and the needs of the organization. Certainly, the enthusiasm of the fellow is of high importance for NGO Monitor, and discussions with the fellow will be premised on creating a project that he/she feels will passionately and wholeheartedly pursue.

The research will entail:
-Monthly written and oral progress reports
-Op-eds, in the fellow’s name, to be published in various Israeli and international papers
-Short research papers (3-8 pages) on specific areas of the larger research project, for publication on NGO Monitor’s website
-Correspondence with relevant government offices and organizations, to advance the research, develop contacts for affecting public policy, and maximizing the impact of the publications
-Preparing PowerPoint presentations and other materials
-The position may include correspondence and/or meetings with diplomats and foreign government officials

Qualifications:
-Preference for strong academic background in political science, international relations, law, or human rights
-Demonstrated interest in and awareness of the Arab-Israeli conflict
-Strong research and writing skills (writing sample will be requested)
-Willingness and demonstrated ability to adapt to new working environment, and integrate smoothly into a team of staff
-Flexible and cooperative approach to work
-Commitment to the goals and priorities defined by NGO Monitor

NGO Monitor provides information and analysis, promotes accountability, and supports discussion on the reports and activities of NGOs (non-governmental organizations) claiming to advance human rights and humanitarian agendas.

The aim of NGO Monitor is to generate and distribute critical analysis and reports on the output of the international NGO community for the benefit of government policy makers, journalists, philanthropic organizations and the general public. We intend to publicize distortions of human rights issues in the Arab-Israeli conflict and provide information and context for the benefit of NGOs working in the Middle East. We hope this will lead to an informed public debate on the role of humanitarian NGOs.

Legal Fellowship, Israeli Money Laundering and Terror Financing Prohibition Authority – Ministry of Justice - Provided by Israel Government Fellows

The Fellow’s tasks will include:
-Conducting comparative legal research, drafting legal memorandums
-Assisting IMPA in preparing its periodical reports for the international organizations
-Assisting in the preparation of legislative proposals and law amendments
-Drafting legal advice for a variety of governmental agencies with respect to money laundering and terrorist financing
-Preparing presentations and lectures
-Updating IMPA’s website
-Other assignments, as needed

Qualifications:
-Native English speaker
-Proficiency in French a plus
-Some level of Hebrew preferred
-Strong research and analysis skills
-Background in finance and/or criminal law advantageous

The IMPA is responsible for assisting Israeli authorities in the investigation and prevention of money laundering and terror financing related offenses as part of the global effort to combat such crimes. Anti-money laundering and terrorist financing is a rapidly developing field of strategic importance for governments around the world. As such, there is a constant need for thorough research on contemporary legal issues.

Assistant to the Legal Advisor for International Affairs, Legal Advisor’s Office – Ministry of Economy - Provided by Israel Government Fellows

The Assistant’s will be repsonsible for a braod range of activities, including:
-Research
-Writing briefs
-Participating in meetings and negotiating sessions with representatives of other countries
-Taking an active role in preparations for negotiating sessions with representatives of foreign countries
-Assisting in matters relating to international trade negotiations currently being held between Israel and several different trading partners
-Carrying out extensive comparative studies

Qualifications:
-High proficiency in English
-Strong research skills
-Legal background or experience in paralegal work extremely beneficial
-Interest in international negotiations and trade
-Background in Economics, International Relations or other related fields is beneficial

The Department serves as the legal advisor to the various departments of the Ministry. The Ministry’s activities cover a wide range of subjects including industry, trade and labor issues. The fellow will be working mostly on issues related to foreign trade, including international trade agreements.
