The Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) is a governmental body under the auspices of Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection. The INPA is charged with the protection of nature, landscape and heritage in Israel. Its main goals are protection of biodiversity, ecosystems, landscapes, heritage sites as well as education to instill these values.

The INPA is in charge of all national parks and nature reserves in Israel such as Masada, Caesarea, Ein Gedi, Hula etc. We are also in charge of the nature protection in Israel and involved in projects of reintroduction to the wild and rehabilitation of animals such as deer, vultures as well as rehabilitation of habitats like the Hula Reserve, the costal dunes, and the Ramon Park.

Policy Fellowship, Energy and Cleantech Unit – Office of the Chief Scientist, Ministry of Economy - Provided by Israel Government Fellows

Oil and Gas:
In the wake of the natural gas discoveries in Israel, the Office of the Chief Scientist works to leverage those discoveries to create a knowledge intensive Israeli industry in the fields of oil and gas. This requires international benchmarking research for policies aimed at leveraging natural resources discoveries for the creation of an intensive based industry, as well as planning and executing events aimed with the participation of experts, researchers and companies interested to become active in this area in Israel.

Cleantech:
International benchmarking research for policies aimed at encouraging the development of technological industry in the cleantech field, such as water, renewable energies, alternative fuels, reduction of GHG emissions and more. In addition to policy level activity, work scope could include arranging business to business activities, seminars and exhibitions and more.

Qualifications:
-Previous knowledge and experience in international policy benchmarking, oil and gas, and cleantech – advantageous
-Advanced computer skills, mainly in Excel and PowerPoint – required
-Excellent writing skills
-Creativity
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) in the Ministry of Economy is charged with execution of government policy for support of industrial R&D. The goal of the OCS is to assist in the development of technology in Israel as a means of fostering economic growth, encouraging technological innovation and entrepreneurship, leveraging Israel’s scientific potential and enhancing the knowledge base of industry in Israel.

Objective: The objective of this project is to evaluate the efficiency of PV panelsunder the harsh climatic conditions of the Arava Region.

Biomass gasification
Objective: This project proposes converting unused agricultural waste into a valuable gas product that can be used to generate electricity or can be used as fuel for internal combustion engines.

Biogas production
Objective: The objective of this project is to develop a low-tech solution to organic waste disposal and methane gas production in unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Negev. This technology (already widespread in China) will give Bedouin communities the capacity to protect themselves from environmental hazards caused by untreated organic waste and will provide a healthier solution to energy needs as
opposed to the current use of diesel powered generators.

Water Desalination Powered by Hybrid Photovoltaic/ Thermal Solar Systems
Objective: The objective of this project is to undertake a systematic investigation of the transient operation of small-scale PV driven desalination plants with preheated water and control strategies for transient energy supply with a focus on active temperature control.

CSP Water Desalination plant.
Objective: The objective of this project is to study CSP technology application for
brackish water desalination.

Through his or her work with the CREEC, the intern will use the following equipment and programs:
-Gas chromatography
-Lab view
-I-V Checker
-Calibration systems
-Gas flow and pressure sensors

Qualifications:
-B.Sc in Renewable Energy or a related field

The Center facilitates direct communication among regional water professionals in the three lower riparian states of the Jordan River and Dead Sea Basin (Israel, Palestine and Jordan). The open dialogue that is made possible by the center enables the flow of data and, most importantly, establishes long-lasting relationships built on trust and integrity between those who are responsible for the sustainable management of the region’s fragile water resources.

The intern will primarily work on various research projects. S/he will also take part in various marketing and development activities.

Research projects:

Conservation Agro-Ecosystems Internship, Center for Conservation Agriculture – Dead Sea & Arava Science Center - Provided by Arava Institute  

alt="arava institute dead sea and arava science center"The Conservation Agro-Ecosystems Intern will work on several projects of the Dead Sea & Arava Science Center, under the supervision of Dr. Ilan Stavi.

The intern will be responsible for:
-Monitoring biochar production in the lab
-Physical and chemical testing of biochar
-Managing field and greenhouse experiments in the Southern Arava R&D, as well as in other locations throughout Israel
-Running soil tests
-Field plots establishment, preparation and management
-Soil and crop sampling
-Physical and chemical testing of soil samples
-Data analysis and summarizing
-Optional: writing grant proposals and research papers

Qualifications:
-Some background in soil science, agriculture, environmental studies, physical geography or related field
-Strong organizational and time management skills
-Computer and MS Office proficient
-Pleasant, personable, hardworking, efficient, able to work under pressure and for long hours
-Willing to take on major responsibilities
-English fluency mandatory

The Center for Conservation Agriculture at the Dead Sea & Arava Science Center conducts applied research within the Arava region within the context of sustainable development and cross-border scientific cooperation.
