International Welfare and Human Rights Fellowship, Department of International Relations – Ministry of Social Affairs and Services

The International Welfare and Human Rights Fellow will work with the Director of the Department of International Relations on a variety of projects.
International Social Services:
-Coordinate international social service cases by the Inter-Country Social Worker regarding cases of child welfare, custody, adoption, foster care, guardianship, abuse, abduction, missing children, etc.
-Formulate and establish contact with international offices and embassies in Israel and abroad that may be able to assist in resolving these cases
Humanitarian Aid Organizations:
-Conduct an annual review of international, non-governmental humanitarian aid organizations working in the Palestinian Authority and Israel registered with the department
-Evaluate profile and agenda of organizations before and after registration with the department
-Accompany department director to meetings that are relevant to the annual review
-Researching and writing the Ministry’s responses to UN conventions and committee questionnaires
-Coordinate with the International Relations Departments in the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as necessary
EU Programs Requests:
-Help department directors to write and formulate requests to the EU
-Prepare reports for foreign official visits, Parliament inquiries, etc.
-Record and report the Ministry’s work with partner organizations (EU, UN, foreign social affairs ministries and NGOs)
-Research best governmental practices in the world, to be applied within the Ministry of Social Affairs
-Collaborate with the spokesperson of the Ministry, as needed
-Interest in international organizations, child welfare, human rights, law, public administration
-The ideal candidate is creative and takes initiative
The Department of International Affairs is responsible for all international relations, bilateral agreements, work with international organizations (EU, UN), cooperation with international foundations and the importing and exporting of knowledge regarding social services. The department is also the Israel Correspondent to the International Social Service Organization (“ISS”).
Please note: Israel Government Fellows does not conduct our internship placement process until all participants have been formally accepted. For this reason, IGF cannot guarantee applicants a particular internship position prior to their acceptance. However, the placement process is influenced primarily by participants’ preferences.
